THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO | MILLENIUM SERIES | BOOK 1 | STEIG LARSSON

Missing? or Murdered?

Everyone has secrets. It's just a matter of finding out what they are.

Rating: 4/5

Genre: Thriller, crime, murder, psychological

Trigger warning: Child abuse, misogyny, animal abuse

Excuse me if I just ramble out about this book, I've too much thoughts and can't really shape them up.

The Industrialist: Henrik Vanger, former C.E.O. of his dynastic corporation is suffering from mental torment of not finding out his most loved family member. No body, no trace of existence. Only a frame of pressed flowers is sent to him on each of his birthdays.

The Journalist, Mikael Blomkvist, lost almost everything with a controversial article. Bonus! He was sentenced a three months prison and a mulct. He's offered to solve Vanger's case and if he succeeds, his life is gonna take a turn.

The Tech-savvy(understatement of the year!), Lisbeth Salander, a pierced, tattooed girl with zero social status. With a brain of infinite gigs and technical prudency, she's the best researcher one can get, in spite of not being a researcher at all.

Stumbling into each other's life, centering the Vanger Case, they found out nothing is as it seems. Behind the translucent glass of famous Vanger dynasty, secrets are buried, waiting to be revealed.

What if it is too much to endure? Who is the missing member?

I read the prologue and the first thought I had in mind is 'Creepy!'. Yes, this book is creepy, disturbing and sometimes you may feel uncomfortable (I did). The first chapter seemed pretty flat and no interest was peaking inside me. Then the second chapter and Wham! Things got intense and intriguing. The book was like an onion, I kept on reading every chapter and the veil started to drop slowly and brought an unguessable ending. A perfect Slow-Burn!

The character development has me awed. These characters are so beautifully used and each one of them had their own unique significance. Witnessing the multiple storylines merging into one and becoming THE SOLE was a wonderful experience.

I do recommend this book to all, specially thriller-lovers. But please be aware about the trigger warnings I mentioned. Books are supposed to be a cause of enjoyment, not triggering.
