MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS | AGATHA CHRISTIE
When the Train-berth becomes Deathbed!
The impossible could not have happened, therefore the impossible must be possible in spite of appearances.
Rating: 4.5/5

A classic mystery indeed! Murder on the Orient Express, the runner-up of World's Favorite Agatha Christie global fan-voting contest, is my gateway to Hercule Poirot. I've heard great things about his sharp brain and consequently I had high hopes. So after reading, I can scream in relief 'cause THIS BOOK SMASHED IT! What more can a reader ask for?
Wherever a detective goes, crime follows him, even a train can not refrain. When The Orient Express got stuck in a snowdrift, amidst passengers' hustle and bustle, a murder was committed in midnight. A man was found stabbed 12 times in his compartment, the same one Poirot was travelling in.
He couldn't rest without analyzing the fatal murder. A scrap of paper, a failed attempt of burning it down, revealed a mischievous deed of the deceased that might serve the purpose of his ultimatum. Interview of other passengers unleashed confusing angles, justified alibis and evidences, only increasing complications.
Whom to trust? Who is speaking truth and who's not? What was the reason of this murder? Is the murderer one of the passengers or someone from outside?
Que s'excuse s'accuse. (He who excuses himself, accuses himself)
Newbie readers will adore this book because of the smoothness in writing. The chronological arrangement and methodical writing style helps in better understanding. The buttery flow of the story casts a spell over the readers that keeps them captive. I love the way Agatha Christie scattered the details, so naked yet so covered. She's a genius when it comes to connecting the dots.
I deducted 0.5 star due to the usage of French for a considerable amount of times. With trivial knowledge of French, I had to use translator and I found it attention-breaking. But on the other hand it made the plot a bit more unusual and hey, let's not forget the positive part-you can learn some French words! And if you know the language, Voila!
The book is suitable for any age, all you need to have is a little interest in murder-mystery! (*winks*)
